Keep a Journal

It can be difficult to remember important details when you're being subjected to attacks at work. However, those details will make it easier to get the help you need. That's where a journal comes in handy. Here are some of the details you should include in your journal.

Dates and Times

If workplace discrimination has become commonplace, you'll need to document the dates and times of each event.

Details of Events

In addition to the dates and times, you should also provide specific details surrounding each incidence of discrimination or harassment.

Witness Information

If other employees or supervisors have witnessed the events, you should document their names and contact information. It's also a good idea to document the specific events they might have witnessed.

Instances of Discrimination Against Other Employees

If you witness similar discrimination against other employees, document those dates and times, as well.

Speak Up

If you're the victim of workplace discrimination, you need to speak up. Notify your supervisor as soon as the discrimination begins. If it's a supervisor who's causing the discrimination or harassment, go directly to their supervisor. Continue up the chain-of-command until you find someone who is not participating in the discrimination.

Maintain Your Composure

The last thing you want is for your angry outburst to prevent you from receiving the assistance you need. Maintain your composure while you're at work. If things get too tough to handle during the workday, find a quiet place to blow off some steam, then return to work.
